EASIER CLEANING FOR FIRE & RESCUE VEHICLES WITH NEW STERTIL LIFT
Scottish fire and rescue vehicles have been treated to a new wash-bay facility kitted out with a state-of-the-art vehicle lift from Stertil Koni. Lothian & Borders Fire and Rescue Service has purchased a Vega 240 surface-mounted parallelogram lift to enable steam-cleaning of its 135-strong fleet.
Lothian & Borders Fire and Rescue Service provides a comprehensive safety service to over 890,000 people living and working in the south-east of Scotland. Its service is delivered through 36 local fire stations, with administrative headquarters in Edinburgh. The nature of the service's challenging and often lifesaving work means its vehicle fleet needs to be kept in top condition, with regular steam-cleaning an important maintenance feature. When the decision was made to install a new outside cleaning facility, Stertil Koni was approached to supply a heavy-duty vehicle lift into the wash-bay.
The Omer Vega 240 is distributed exclusively by Stertil Koni and is a heavy-duty, electro-hydraulic parallelogram lift with a range of capacities from 12 to 52 tonnes. Lothian Fire and Rescue has a fleet of 135 vehicles, including cars, vans and trucks and chose to install the 24-tonne version of this versatile lift, which is suitable for any type of heavy-duty vehicle with an even load distribution on to the ground. Non-standard versions, capable of lifting unusually large vehicles such as tanks, cranes and car-transporters can be specially designed. The popular galvanised version selected by the Fire & Rescue Service is ideal for wash-bays and outdoor steam-cleaning operations.
"We steam-clean every vehicle at least once a year," says George Thomsom of Lothian & Borders Fire and Rescue, " And it's important to be able to do this safely and efficiently. With the new lift, it's easy to drive the vehicle on and then raise it. Also, there are no obstructions underneath to hamper the cleaning operation. It uses space efficiently and is reliable and user-friendly."
All Vega parallelogram lift models come with the option of being above ground or flush-mounted. Quick to install, there is no anchoring required on the floor and the lift is easily relocated.
Stertil Koni vehicle lifts are known for their reliability, long lifespan and high resale value. Designed for intensive and problem-free use, all models are tested during development with a minimum of 50,000 lifting cycles under a full load. Stertil factory-trains its own engineers and keeps parts in stock for 25 years after production. Stertil Koni was the first lifting system manufacturer to be awarded ISO 9001 and is part of the Stertil Group.
